We Celebrate the Generosity of Lakesiders this Summer

Posted on June 22, 2013

It has been an incredible year at Lakeside Chautauqua thanks to the support of many Lakesiders. Today, we pause to celebrate you, our amazing family of supporters. The 2012 fiscal year marks a year of celebration, as Lakeside Chautauqua surpasses yet another milestone for the Lakeside Fund.

Our goal was to raise $550,000, and we have received more than $688,000. Thanks to first-time families as well as the continued support of lifelong Lakesiders, we exceeded an all-time Lakeside Fund record for another year. Your Lakeside Fund gifts make a significant and visible impact on the Lakeside Chautauqua experience.

Due to your generosity last year, we were able to invest a record amount into 2012 facility upgrades. One of our most popular facility upgrades this year included Chautauqua Park and the development of a memorial garden, which will be available for Lakeside guests and residents to enjoy this summer.

Within the memorial garden, the cremated remains of loved ones will be placed in the ground, within a biodegradable container, to become part of the soil, giving life to the garden's many perennial plants and trees. In the upcoming phases of the Chautauqua Park’s development, beautiful art sculptures and reflection pools will be placed throughout the sacred space.

In addition to the facility upgrades at Chautauqua Park, Lakeside has installed a recreational water play destination, the Splash Park, along the waterfront and east of the Pavilion. It features a newly constructed zero depth entry children's pool and state-of-the-art splash pad, used for water play and interaction with no standing water.

With the outpouring of financial support to the Lakeside Fund, Lakeside Chautauqua has also added six outdoor tents over paved surfaces to the area around the C. Kirk Rhein, Jr., Center for the Living Arts. The high-quality tents provide a canopy over each space, allowing up to 10 students to participate in each "classroom." This project will expand classroom space, allow staff to recruit more volunteer teachers and increase availability of classes to accommodate more students each summer.

To meet 21st century guest expectations, Lakeside has also transformed a key facility space for educational lectures. Chautauqua Hall, formally known as the Fountain Inn Green Room, was enhanced this spring. The walls were refreshed with paint, and two flat screen TVs were mounted in place of the one projection screen. New window treatments were purchased to better control lighting. Supportive and comfortable chairs were purchased, and new carpet was installed to complement the space.

Given the success of the Lakeside Fund in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year, the scenic nature/walking trail that borders the campus has been expanded into Chautauqua Park. The expanded trail will link the park to the Lakeside community, providing a reconnection to nature and a safe path for walkers, photographers, bird watchers and explorers of all ages to discover this new wooded space.

Your financial support helps make the Chautauqua experience and enhancements possible. Each gift, regardless of the size and amount, helps bring families together, slowing their pace to renew spiritually, intellectually, culturally and physically at Lakeside Chautauqua.
