Welcome, West Ohio Annual Conference

Posted on June 03, 2014

From Sunday, June 8-Wednesday, June 11, the clergy and lay members of the West Ohio Annual Conference will gather on the shores of Lake Erie at Lakeside Chautauqua for their 45th conference session.

Members and guests will worship, learn and deliberate in community, making important decisions and celebrating milestones in ministry.

Throughout the week, nearly 2,500 West Ohio United Methodists will experience workshops, bible studies, ordination services, special events and attend to the business of the conference.

Ohio West Area Episcopal leader, Bishop Gregory V. Palmer, will preside over the session and preach at the Monday morning worship service, as well as bringing his Episcopal Address Monday afternoon. The message for Tuesday morning’s worship service will be from the Rev. Bobbi Kaye Jones, pastor of Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.

Bishop Robert E. Hayes, Jr., Episcopal leader for the Oklahoma Area of The United Methodist Church, will deliver the message at the Tuesday afternoon Celebration of Life and Ministry service.

Special guest at the Sunday evening Laity Session and throughout the week will be the Rev. Eric H. F. Law, founder and executive director of the Kaleidoscope Institute.

The Rev. Law, author of the book Holy Currencies: Six Blessings for Sustainable Missional Ministries, will lead training sessions on Holy Currencies for the membership at various times during the week.

Bishop Palmer and conference attendees continue the journey they began together last year to become the beloved community that Christ yearns for all to be. As God’s beloved, we have been taken into God’s hands, chosen by God, to be blessed, broken and given so that all might know that they are the beloved of God.

This year’s focus will be on being blessed, and the members will share their blessings as offerings on Tuesday toward their commitment to Imagine No Malaria, the United Methodist campaign to eliminate deaths from malaria.

Other events during the week include a 5k Walk/Run, Rock the Dock music event, a series of Summer “Shorts” workshops, special youth worship and many family fun activities.

All events in Hoover Auditorium will be streamed live by the conference. For more information, visit www.westohioumc.org/2014conference.
