A Record-Breaking Summer at the Rhein Center
Posted on August 20, 2015
The C. Kirk Rhein, Jr., Center for the Living Arts has exceeded past attendance records every week this summer.
The most notable increase in attendance occurred in Week 2, when 944 students were registered in the 139 classes offered.
Other records were broken as well, including the amount of mortar mix used to make concrete stepping stones (1,000 pounds), the number of rocks painted in one week (215 in Week 5), and the number of Rhein Center seasonal staff members needed to support the growing arts program (2 part-time, 4 full-time and one coordinator).
This summer, students completed projects such as digital photography, making a bubblegum jar, wheel thrown or hand sculpted pottery, learning ballroom dance, perspective drawing and constructing a cedar birdhouse.
Classes ranged from adorable children’s crafts to exquisite fine arts workshops, and encompassed everything in between to give Lakesiders another great summer at the Rhein Center.
