Dock Repairs Taking Place

Posted on April 26, 2016

Last year, Lakeside suffered the misfortune of being directly in the path of four major sustained windstorms that resulted in record surf and significant damage.

This past fall, scuba divers were dispatched to analyze damage to the dock. On the east side of the dock, they found two damaged areas on the external sections of the metal plates fortifying the dock.

Once damaged, powerful wave action washed away fill rock used in the interior section of the dock structure. In turn, this created major voids where the concrete surface of the dock began to collapse.

Recently, the surface concrete was removed from those two areas, and whatever fill that had remained inside the dock was removed. This allowed us to fix the two defects.

One was a faulty seam, which was welded back together. The other was a one-foot diameter hole, which was closed by welding a metal sheet over the hole.

Once these repairs were completed, the fill was replaced. We used larger sized fill rocks to further stabilize the dock.

To finish the repairs, contractors will pour new concrete to fix the dock surface.
