Wellness Advisory Team to Assist in Development of Defining Wellness

Posted on August 21, 2016

Over the next six months, a team of community members will work together to help the Lakeside staff define a comprehensive wellness program that can be offered to residents and guests in 2017 and beyond.

The team was assembled as a result of individuals who came forward at various small group gatherings held this summer to discuss the Pool & Wellness Center. Each expressed a desire to assist Lakeside by sharing their respective skill sets related to wellness and a passion for healthy living.

The importance of wellness has been at the forefront of many discussions this summer. This team will be processing the feedback gathered from Lakesiders.

Additionally, research will be shared as the team begins to define wellness and develop action steps, including exercise classes, educational lectures, nutrition, Farmers’ Market events and spiritual renewal opportunities. The team will be meeting monthly by conference call and will use technology tools like Dropbox to share research documents.

The team will define short and long-term objectives for the community and will be analyzing wellness models such as the one documented in the New York Times best seller, The Blue Zones: 9 Lessons for Living Longer by Dan Buettner. Dan and his brother, Tony, led a National Geographic research team across the globe to discover the secrets of the world’s longest lived people.

The Lakeside community will have a special opportunity to hear directly about their research when Tony speaks at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 in Hoover Auditorium.

In addition, the Wellness Advisory Team will formally kick off its research by having a private dinner with Tony on Saturday, following his Friday lecture. They will also be receiving a copy of another Blue Zones book, entitled The Blue Zones Solution: Eating and Living Like the World’s Healthiest People.

If you have input you would like to share with the team, please email Gretchen Colon, Senior V.P. of Advancement & Communications, at gcolon@lakesideohio.com.
