Pool & Wellness Update: June 2017

Posted on June 14, 2017

Last summer, Lakeside set out on a goal of raising more than $3 million for a pool & wellness center. In just five months, Lakesiders came together as a community to surpass the fundraising goal and committed to breaking ground on the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus.

With the necessary funds secured in September, Lakeside worked with Marblehead and Danbury Townships on the necessary zoning and safety permits to begin construction on the site, which is located on Sixth Street, near the Williams Tennis Campus.

Janotta & Herner, a construction crew from Monroeville, began work in November, and thanks to the mild winter on the peninsula, the progress has moved at an astounding pace.

As the foundations were being set for the entry and pool buildings (at the northern and western sides of the site, respectively), rock was dug out for the 6,000 sq ft pool in the center of the site. As preparations for the framing and siding of the buildings were made, underground utility and sewer connections were also being placed. Due to space limitations and crew changes, construction began on the 4,000 sq ft Wellness Center in January.

The pool, entry building and pool building is set to open in July. The wellness center will open later this year.

In conjunction with the building of the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus, Lakeside also formed a Wellness Advisory Team, who will help steer the direction of wellness programming and spaces. With the help of all community members providing their input, the Wellness Advisory Team has been working to define wellness at Lakeside.

For those who are keeping up with the progress on our Facebook page, the work has seemed to quicken with the framing of the Wellness Center being completed and siding being added to the buildings. The water slide is being built, wheelchair ramps are in place, splash park features are being installed and landscaping will be completed in the next few weeks.

At this time, Lakeside would like to thank every individual who helped make this dream a reality. This milestone project wouldn’t be possible without the generous and enthusiastic community, or the hardworking crews from Janotta & Herner or Patterson Pools.
