COVID-19 Update (March 25, 2020)

Posted on March 25, 2020

Dear Lakesiders,

We hope this email finds you well, staying healthy and safe. As promised, we will update you each week about Lakeside’s operations and response to COVID-19.

Although Gov. Mike DeWine issued a ‘Stay at Home’ order for all non-essential businesses in Ohio, we consider a lot of the functions at Lakeside to be essential, especially the municipal and general services to the community, such as Security.

The Lakeside offices and the Fountain Inn remain closed to the public until Monday, April 6 – this includes the Administration, Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation and Lakeside Chautauqua Realty (cottage rentals and home sales) Offices.

Although offices are closed to the public, our staff is continuing to carry out Lakeside’s business and is available to take calls and emails from the office or remotely between the hours of 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday (closed for lunch 12-1 p.m.). Safety Services/Security will continue its 24/7, round-the-clock coverage.

Thank you for the support and ideas you’ve shared with us about the Chautauqua summer season and moving forward living in the new norms we’re all experiencing. Click here to continue sharing your ideas so that we may include them in our future thoughts and discussions.

Support the Lakeside Annual Fund

We’re grateful for all the ways you support Lakeside Chautauqua, and we hope that we can continue to count on your support in the months ahead. Visit to make an online donation before Lakeside’s fiscal year ends on Tuesday, March 31.

If you give $50 or more, you’ll be entered in a drawing to win an exclusive Lakeside blanket, perfect for cozy days at home or cool evenings by the lake. We’ll be announcing winners of our blanket giveaway on April 2.

Virtual Gathering being planned

Although we have cancelled our Ohio Gatherings in April, we’re investigating ways to connect with you by holding a Virtual Gathering next month. Stay tuned and check as we finalize details.

Hoover roof update

In addition to work at the Pavilion, the roof of Hoover Auditorium is receiving new shingles on the east and west sides of the main roof.

The shingles that were previously on the structure had been found to be defective. The manufacturer is providing new shingles and other needed materials without cost to Lakeside. Equipment began arriving earlier this month and work will continue as mandates and weather permit. To view progress pictures, visit Lakeside’s official Facebook page.

Ward Catering’s frozen to-go meals sell out

Wow, thank you Lakesiders! Ward Catering's frozen to-go meals have been very popular. In less than 24 hours of taking orders, we have sold out!

Requested deliveries will be made between 4:30-5 p.m. Thursday. All deliveries will be made without contact; Lakeside employees will place meals on front porches and knock/ring doorbells. Pick up orders will be available at Wesley Lodge from 4-6 p.m. Thursday. For those coming to the pick-up site, please remember to maintain social distancing.

As a service to Lakesiders and the local community having difficulty buying food, we may continue these meals in the future. Stay tuned for details.
