Volunteering and your financial support truly make an impact!

YOU are making a difference!

This season, with shortages in funding and seasonal labor caused by COVID-19, volunteers are more important now than ever.

In response to this shortage of seasonal labor, the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation Board organized the Lakeside Chautauqua Volunteer Corps. The Chautauqua season is more than halfway in, and over 200 Lakesiders of all ages are taking part in the Volunteer Corps by volunteering across the grounds.

We are so grateful to these volunteers for taking the time to help our community succeed despite this year’s challenges. You may have seen Volunteer Corps members cleaning the parks and lakefront, painting the Hotel Lakeside, encouraging social distancing at the Farmers’ Market, working in the gardens, serving as ushers at the Steele Memorial Bandstand and so much more.

“My favorite part about volunteering is feeling like you’ve made a difference in the community and sharing the joys of Lakeside with others,” says Lucia Faust, a member of the Volunteer Corps. “Volunteering is what drives our community forward and keeps us united and engaged with one another.”

What have YOU helped accomplish?

Together, these 200 Volunteer Corps members have accomplished so much. Here are some of the major projects the Volunteer Corps has taken on this Chautauqua season.

On June 11, more than 50 volunteers worked across the grounds to clean up after a severe storm. They helped pick up branches, rake debris and ensure that the grounds were back in order.

Members of the Volunteer Corps prepared several playgrounds by cleaning, power washing and staining playground equipment at Cherry Park, Perry Park and the Campground. The entrance to the Wellness Center was also power washed by Darrell Waite.

Volunteers helped beautify the grounds by laying new mulch in the Memorial Garden and at the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus, while Ron and Mary Ann Janke led weekly cleanups of the dock and waterfront.

Volunteers have helped staff write thank you letters to donors who have given in support of the Annual Fund this fiscal year.

Groups of Lakesiders assisted at several community events like the Craft & Art Show by encouraging social distancing and answering questions. Volunteers were also crucial in helping to encourage social distancing and distributing water bottles to those participating in Shuffleboard Tournaments.

The Men’s Bible Study Group completed two important projects this summer - painting the fence along the back patio of the Hotel Lakeside and repainting the doors of Hoover Auditorium.

Throughout the season volunteers also worked as ushers at bandstand events, tending to various garden beds, sweeping the Hotel Lakeside porch, setting up and taking down the Wellness Labyrinth and much more! Thank you for your support!

We are so appreciative of all of these members for their time, effort and hard work. Their important commitment is making a huge difference and helping reduce costs, complete important tasks and give back to our special community. There’s still time to join the Volunteer Corps this summer. To learn more, visit lakesideohio.com/volunteer or call (419) 798-4461, ext. 246.
