Using the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus in 2018

The Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus will open for all to use on Saturday, May 26. The pool will remain open until Monday, Sept. 3, and the Wellness Center will maintain summer operating hours until Monday, Sept. 3 before switching to off-season hours and access on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Pool Hours of Operation
Weather permitting, from Saturday, May 26-Monday, Sept. 3, the pool will be open every day for the following hours:

  • 7 a.m.-5:45 p.m., Monday-Friday
    • Open swim: 11 a.m.-5:45 p.m.
  • 8 a.m.-5:45 p.m., Saturday
    • Open swim: 10 a.m.-5:45 p.m.
  • 12-6 p.m., Sunday (all day open swim)

During select hours, the pool will host lap swimming, water aerobics and swimming lessons. The schedule for those classes is available on our Recreation Updates page. Breaks will be scheduled the last 15 minutes of every hour. The water slide will be available during open swim, but not during lap swim, lessons or classes.

Pool Access
During Gate Operation (May 25-28 and June 16-Sept. 3)

All individuals with a Season Chautauqua Pass, Daily Chautauqua Pass or Weekly Chautauqua Pass will have access to the pool and any lessons or classes that take place there (i.e. swimming lessons, water aerobics). A Saturday Chautauqua Pass will also be accepted on Saturdays, and Reduced Rate Daily Passes will be accepted during Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-28) and Week 11 (Aug. 26-Sept. 3). Those entering the pool area must show their pass each time they enter and exit the pool. Wristbands will not be provided for the pool this year, so it is important to keep your pass with you the entire time you are in Lakeside. Partial Day Chautauqua Passes (valid for 3 hours), Complimentary Passes (Church, Faith for Living Hour, Laundromat, Orchestra Hall Movie and Shopping Dining) and Special Event Passes (Garden Tour, Lakeside Women's Club Tour of Cottages, Prayer Breakfast and Luncheon, and Antique Show) do not grant access to the swimming pool.

Classes & Lessons in the Pool during Gate Operation (May 25-28 & June 16-Sept. 3)
Swimming lessons, water aerobics classes and other group activities in the pool are available only to those with a Daily or Season Chautauqua Pass. Partial Day Passes will not be accepted.

When Gates are not in Operation (May 29-June 15)
All individuals with a Season Chautauqua Pass are permitted access to the pool when the gates are not in operation. Otherwise, daily access to the pool will cost $10 for adults and youth (age 13 & up) and $3 for children (ages 3-12). Children age 2 & under are free. These transactions will take place at the entry gates to the pool. The West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church has made special accommodations for conference attendees to use the pool. Please ask for credentials at Annual Conference check-in for use during your stay from June 3-June 6.

Children age 12 & under must always be accompanied by an adult Chautauqua Pass holder to swim.

Group Reservations for the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus
From 6-9 p.m. on select evenings, the pool will be available for groups and private parties to use. Contact Conference & Event Planning to inquire about using the pool or Wellness Center for events at conference@lakesideohio.com.

Wellness Center Hours of Operation
After the Wellness Center Grand Opening from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26 the Wellness Center will be open every day until Monday, Sept. 3 for the following hours:

  • 7 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Saturday*
  • 12-8 p.m., Sunday

*The equipment room will be open all hours that the Center is open. From Monday-Saturday, the large class/meeting room will host exercise classes from 7-11 a.m., group meetings and private parties from 12-2 p.m. and wellness education classes from 3-5 p.m. Exercise classes will include Tai Chi, yoga, kids yoga, cardio drumming, Zumba, cardio regimens and more. Wellness Center Access
Guests must be age 14 & up to use the equipment room in the Wellness Center. There will be no exceptions. Children ages 13 & under may have access to certain events or exercise classes (ex: kids yoga) if they are accompanied by an adult Chautauqua Pass holder.

Classes & Lessons in the Wellness Center during Gate Operation (May 25-28 & June 16-Sept. 3)
For those wishing to attend exercise/wellness classes in Drackett Hall, a Partial Day Pass will be accepted if a Season Chautauqua Pass, Daily Chautauqua Pass, Saturday Chautauqua Pass, Weekly Chautauqua Pass or Reduced Rate Chautauqua Pass has not already been purchased. Please note, the Partial Day Pass does NOT grant access to the swimming pool.

When Gates are not in Operation (May 29-June 15) All individuals with a Season Chautauqua Pass are permitted access to the Wellness Center when the gates are not in operation. Otherwise, daily access to the Wellness Center will cost $7 for all individuals age 14 & up. These transactions will take place at the front desk of the Wellness Center.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4 After the summer has ended, the hours and classes offered at the Wellness Center will be reduced. Those who live locally will have the option to purchase a monthly pass to receive a key fob that allows access to the equipment room. The monthly pass price and other details will be available at a later date.

Rules & Regulations
Parking, Bikes & Golf Carts
Limited parking for cars, bikes and golf carts is located on the north side of Sixth Street. There are two reserved handicap spaces and two additional spaces reserved for drop-off and pick-up.

Golf cart parking is located across the street from the Lakeside Grounds Building on the corner of Vine Avenue and Sixth Street.

Bike parking is also on the corner of Vine Avenue and Sixth Street or in a bike rack. Please do not park bikes, scooters or other modes of transportation in the grass or flowers, in the handicapped parking spaces or around the fire hydrant.

Given our mission of wellness, we encourage walking to this new facility. For your safety, additional four-way stops have been added in the area and a pedestrian crosswalk is located in front of the entry building.

Shuttles
Shuttle routes have been expanded to deliver guests to the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus. A shuttle stop is located at the corner of Vine Avenue and Sixth Street. Please wait there for the next available shuttle.

Safety & Use
Your collaboration in following the safety regulations will help ensure your safe enjoyment of this new facility. As we use the new Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus, we ask that you follow the lifeguards’ directions at all times.

Swimmers are asked to shower before using the pool and keep their area clean while using the facility. There is no diving.

Individuals should not leave children unattended, even for a few moments. Diaper dependent swimmers must wear swim diapers or snug plastic pants under swimsuits. Swim diapers can be purchased at the Admissions Office in the entry building for $1 each. Children age 5 & older should use gender appropriate locker rooms or family bathrooms.

Lifeguards will use a single short whistle blast to gain a swimmer’s attention and a long whistle blast to clear the pool for a rest break and/or emergency. Guests are to listen to the lifeguard for further instructions.

Swimmers will not be permitted to use inflatables, water wings, noodles or any other floaties. Kickboards, pull buoys and jogging belts may be used in the lap lanes only. Life jackets are permitted, and a limited number are available for use for the safety of non-swimmers. Puddle jumpers are also permitted. For the safety of all, it is important not to run on the concrete pool deck.

Families and individuals should plan ahead and bring along sunscreen, towels and flip flops. Wi-Fi is available; name: Pool Guest, password: wellness.

In the event of a thunderstorm, pool activities will be suspended until 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard.

Lemonade stands are not permitted in or around the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus, especially in the grass or flowers.

Security cameras and motion detectors have been installed across the campus. The Danbury Police Department will be called if there are after-hour trespassers.

Campus Buildings

The Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus is located on the corner of Laurel Avenue and Sixth Street. Within the campus sits the entry building, pool building, community swimming pool and wellness center, which are all handicap accessible.

Walking into the facility there is a ramp and a patio table with chairs covered by a bright blue umbrella. Also, a restroom can be accessed from outside of the campus.

The entry building has two areas. The space on the right includes the admissions window and lifeguard office. Please present your Daily, Saturday or Season Chautauqua Pass to enter the pool.

As you enter, on the left, drinks are available for purchase. Walking forward, you’ll see the 6,000 square foot pool, capable of holding 400 swimmers. The swimming pool features heated water, zero-depth entry, a water slide, five lap lanes and an expansive pool deck for families to gather. The pool also offers an ADA-approved lift-chair and an entry ramp. The water slide has two fiberglass flumes; one open and the other closed. Swimmers must be taller than 48” to ride.

Strolling along the west side of the pool is the pool building, which houses restrooms, changing rooms, showers and the mechanical room. South of the pool sits the Wellness Center, which includes a multi-purpose room and an equipment room with a few treadmills, ellipticals, a rowing machine and stationary bikes.
